Marcus Bell – (Tenor Saxophone) biography

Marcus Bell, a native of Houston, Texas, has been an active professional saxophonist for 13 years. His biggest saxophone influences are Dexter Gordon, Michael Brecker, Kirk Whalum and Kyle Turner.

During his middle and high school years, Bell was active member of the Summer Jazz Workshop sponsored by Jazz Education Inc. in Houston, and the Westbury High School Jazz ensemble under the direction of Mr. Al Campbell and Kyle Turner. He was also a featured soloist with the Conrad O Johnson Youth Orchestra during their performance at Carnegie hall in 2011.

Although he was offered numerous music scholarships for various colleges, Bell decided to take an academic scholarship and studied chemical engineering at Prairie View A&M University. While at Prairie View, Bell was a member of the Prairie View Jazz ensemble under the direction of Dr. Robert Sanders, while preforming as a freelance musician in the greater Houston Area.

He also was an active member of many engineering organizations, such as NSBE and AIChE, also becoming a 2016 initiate of the Zeta Beta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. During his sophomore year at Prairie View, Bell officially became the saxophonist for the Hustlers Brass Band. Since graduating from Prairie View in May 2017, Bell works as an engineer in the Houston area while still preforming with the Hustlers Brass Band and other various groups.
